GREENVILLE, NC --- The California Baptist men's golf program headed to the Ironwood Collegiate Classic for their second event of the fall season in metropolitan Greenville, North Carolina. The Lancers finished fifth out of 14 competitors, besting their previous ninth-place finish at the Nick Watney Invitational last week.
Eeli Kujanpää started the opening round on Monday well, carding a 3-under (69) score right off the bat. Luke Bartram kicked off his first tournament of the season with a first-round score of 70, while Fred Tindale and Kurtis Rodriguez earned 1-under marks. Tindale kept the momentum going and finished the second round 2-under for the lowest finish from a Lancer to end the first day of the tournament.
The squads picked back up on Tuesday morning, and business was booming for California Baptist as four Lancers carded under-par scores. Tindale rounded out the two-day event with a 1-under final round and finished tied for 11th across 90 golfers. Kujanpää finished two-under in the final round, suitable for a T15 finish, while Rodriguez tied for 24th even with par. Sean Citherlet had his best round of the tournament on the last day after finishing 3-under (69) during the final round to jump to a T28 finish. Bartram completed the tournament with a 44th-place finish.
Kujanpää, Tindale, and Citherlet improved their scores and finishes from the previous tournament, while Rodriguez maintained his even-par score. The Lancers were ranked in the top five for par-4s and par-5s during the tournament, evening fairing well during the hardest ranked hole of the course.
California Baptist will pick back up during October 16th-18th as they compete in the Visit Stockton Invitational, hosted by the University of the Pacific.
