
CBU Goes Undefeated at the Tina Finali Invitational

THOUSAND OAKS--- the California Baptist University women's water polo team swept the Tina Finali Invitational with two wins over Cal Lutheran and Cal State Fullerton on Saturday. The wins moved CBU to 4-0 in the tournament and made them winners of seven of their last eight.
The first match was against the host team California Lutheran University in which the Lancers won 16-9. CBU is 8-1 against the Regals all time. The match was tight until the fourth period when the Lancers outscored the Regals 5-1 to secure the win. Julia Miller was inserted into the goal for the fourth and recorded three saves with one goal allowed. Dora Lehoczky and Abby Mammen combined for six goals on ten shots to lead the way for the Lancers.
Their final match of the invitational was against the Titans of Cal State Fullerton, who the Lancers defeated earlier in the season 17-2 at the Lancer Joust. The match was low-scoring, with only five goals in the second half. Emaly Hutton and Taylor Frandsen netted two goals each to secure the win and their flawless record at the invitational.
Mammen and Lehoczky led the Lancers with six goals apiece in the tournament, with Mena and Almendariz behind them with four goals.
Next, CBU will return to Riverside for its first Gold Coast Conference matchup with Fresno State on Friday, March 3rd, at 4 p.m.
