CBU Takes on Marist in Overtime Battle

RIVERSIDE--- The California Baptist University women's water polo team battled the Marist Red Foxes in a non-conference showdown, with the Red Foxes coming away with an 18-16 victory in overtime.

After a slow opening period, both teams picked up the pace in the second, combining for eight goals as the score was knotted at seven at halftime. The Lancers took their first lead of the game on the opening possession of the third with a goal by Maddie Schwegler.

The second half was a back-and-forth affair, with the lead changing multiple times and the score being tied three times. Marist closed the fourth period on a three-goal run to take the lead before Morgan Gates put one through the back of the net to overtime. Dora Lehoczky and Abby Mammen scored the two CBU goals in overtime, But Marist would respond with four goals in the overtime frame to take the victory.

Jamie and Emaly Hutton led the way with four goals apiece for CBU. Their eight combined goals tied for the most they had combined for in one match this season. Mammen and Schwegler rounded out the scoring with two goals apiece.
