
CBU's Fourth Period Rally Comes up Short in Loss to Eagles

IRVINE--- The California Baptist women's water polo team faced the Concordia (Irvine) Eagles in a closely-contested conference matchup in Irvine on Friday afternoon. The Eagles defended their home pool even after a late fourth-period rally by the Lancers with an 11-9 victory.
CBU will fall one game under .500 with a 14-15 overall record, and the Eagles will move to 14-12.
Concordia held onto a lead for the majority of the match, with their largest being 10-6 with under four minutes in the fourth period. CBU would mount a rally, scoring three goals in three minutes, all by Emaly Hutton, to bring the score to 10-9 with 0:57 remaining. The Eagles would chip in a late goal to escape with the 11-9 win.
Emaly Hutton recorded her seventh hat trick of the season with three goals in the fourth quarter and added a steal. Jamie Hutton and Melinna Galbraith recorded a goal and an assist on the afternoon, with teammates Cayleigh Carter, Maddie Schwegler, Celeste Almendariz, and Dora Lehoczky rounding out the scoring with one goal apiece.
Goalkeeper Ava Ratajczak recorded six saves, her third-highest output of the season, and played the full 32 minutes for the third time this season.
Next up, the Lancers will head home for a senior day, where they will match up with Azusa Pacific on Saturday, April 1st, at noon.
