Lancers Close Out Road Series Against Thunderbirds

CEDAR CITY, UTAH – California Baptist University softball returned to Kathryn Berg Field on Wednesday to wrap up their midweek Western Athletic Conference series at Southern Utah. The Lancers were looking for a road sweep but could not close the deal, falling to the Thunderbirds 12-2 in five innings.
The Lancers are now 23-17 on the season with a 7-5 record in the WAC. They sit in a three-way tie for second in the conference standings alongside Grand Canyon and Stephen F. Austin, two games back of the conference-leading Trailblazers of Utah Tech.
The Lancers bookended the scoring, getting on the board first as Kayla Lyon drove in her sixth run of the series in the top of the first to make it 1-0 CBU. SUU found their bats early, responding with 12-straight runs over the next three innings before CBU would plate the final score in the top of the fourth on a Deja Westbrook pinch-hit RBI double to left center.
The Lancers are back home for their second WAC series of the week, hosting Utah Valley on Friday. April 14, at 4:00 and 6:30 p.m., and against on Saturday, April 15, at 1:00 p.m.
