Lancers Round Out Weekend with Sunday Win

After Michael Carpentier grounded out to put CBU on the board, Dustin Garcia capped off the first inning with a solo homer for a two-run lead. The Lancers tacked on another run in the bottom of the third with another solo home run from Cole Howarth, collecting his second of the season.

California Baptist put up nine runs in the fourth, starting with Josh Paino reaching on a fielder's choice and Carpentier getting on off a single. Mitchel Simon drove in the inning's first run with a double to left center, and Garcia followed with a single down the right line for a pair of runs. Simon and Garcia both came home after a Jake Skipworth three-run home run over right field. Howarth and Garret Ostrander got on base with a single each, sent home by a single from Matthew Darr to left field. Carpentier tallied the final two runs with his second at-bat of the inning off a single.

Entering the sixth ahead by twelve, the Texans put up two runs to cut their deficit to ten. Ostrander stole home during the Lancer's at-bat for a single run and a 13-2 lead. Tarleton kept their momentum going and collected three more runs off a single and double in the seventh. Seth Mattox closed out the day for CBU on the mound, ending the game with a strikeout.
Skipworth had a day on the diamond, earning three hits and three RBI from the box. Carpentier also picked up three RBI off his two hits, and Garcia ended the game with a pair of RBI. Spencer Bengard secured his third win of the season with five strikeouts in six innings, while Mattox closed with three Ks in two innings.
The Lancers take on UCR for the third time this year at Totman Stadium on Tuesday night at 6:00 PM.
