Lancers Win Fourth Installment of Crosstown Showdown Against UCR

Shayne Simpson got the party started right away in the bottom of the second with his third home run of the season. After a few scoreless innings, Jake Skipworth launched a solo shot to start the scoring in the sixth. Connor McGuire picked up an RBI with a single that brought home Nicholas Dumesnil, and Dustin Garcia finished the inning with a two-run home run to put the Lancers ahead by five.

Josh Paino added a run after stealing home in the seventh inning, and CBU added five more runs in the top of the eighth. Josiah Chavez earned an RBI off a single that brought home Michael Darr, while Josiah Bryant was hit by a pitch that walked in the second run of the inning. Simpson collected two more RBI after bringing in two runs with a well-placed single. Bryant rounded out the inning with the eleventh run after safely making it home off a wild pitch by the Highlanders.
UC Riverside did load the bases in the bottom of the eighth, but Brandon Ross got CBU out of the jam with three strikeouts in a row. The Highlanders didn't go down without a fight and collected two runs in the bottom of the ninth.

Six pitchers from California Baptist's pitching staff combined for the win, only giving up six hits and totaling nine strikeouts on the night. Leading offensively, Simpson finished his day with two hits and three RBI. Garret Ostrander collected three hits from the box, while both Chavez and Skipworth put up two hits and an RBI.
The Lancers return to Totman Stadium this weekend for their final home Western Athletic Conference series against Sacramento State, beginning on Friday evening at 6:00 p.m.
