RIVERSIDE--- California Baptist women's soccer welcomed the Highlanders of the New Jersey Institute of Technology on Thursday evening in their first home match of the season. The Lancers pressed high for the majority of the game and came away with a 3-1 win. Kaylee Hauck kicked off the scoring for the Lancers, while an own goal by NJIT and a set-piece goal from Lourdes Bosch secured the victory. CBU improves to a 2-0 record before hosting Colorado State on Sunday.
The Lancers quickly settled into the game on their home field against NJIT and had some immediate chances, like a pair of corners, in the first ten minutes. Hauck and Bosch pressed hard against the Highlander's backline and were able to fire off a few shots but eventually found the back of the net in the 25th minute. Mckenna Ray delivered a ball across the box that was headed away by a Highlander and fell just before the 18-yard line in the perfect spot for Hauck to drill off the bounce into the goal.
After halftime, CBU continued to challenge the NJIT goalkeeper with another free-kick but ultimately added to their lead with an own-goal courtesy of the Highlanders. Bosch netted her second goal of the season soon after with another perfectly placed free-kick from the corner of the 18-year box that was bent just right for the three-goal lead.
The Highlanders didn't back down and tallied a goal amidst a 1v1 in the 66th minute but weren't able to complete the comeback.

"It's nice to get a win on your home opener!" says CBU head coach Kristen St. Clair. "We were not as sharp in our execution as we should have been for our own standards, making the game more difficult at times than it needed to be. That being said, credit to our team for rising to the occasion against a gritty out-of-region team. We need to be more consistent in our execution going into the next game on Sunday. We'll enjoy the result tonight and go back to work in preparation for the next game tomorrow."
The Lancers will now look to Sunday, where they will play Colorado State in the CBU Soccer Stadium at 5 PM.Players Mentioned
