CBU Faces Colorado State At Home
8/27/2023 9:00:00 PM | Women's Soccer
RIVERSIDE--- California Baptist University's women's soccer team faced Colorado State on Sunday evening and fell to the Rams in a close 1-0 match-up. After the game was delayed due to extreme heat, the Lancers took the field and tested the Colorado State defense but ultimately could not find the back of the net. CBU is now 2-1-0 on the season.
"We played a tough non conference opponent tonight. We did not outplay our opponent nor were we sharp as we know we are capable of in the first half," says head coach Kristen St. Clair. "That usually is not a good combination. We lacked the grit and sharp execution showcased in the last two games. That is not up to our standards of CBU Soccer. In the second half with our intensity and urgency, we started taking the game to them. We created some dangerous scoring opportunities, but unfortunately we ran out of time before we could tie up the game. This is a special group capable of competing for the WAC title. As we continue to grow towards our goals, we need to do a better job applying the work from training to our matches."
It was a hot evening in Riverside as temperatures hit triple digits and forced a 30-minute weather delay just three minutes into the game. After returning to the stadium and re-warming up, the squads battled on CBU's home field, with Lourdes Bosch leading the offensive attack with two free-kick opportunities. The midfielder fired off two shots, with one on frame, but could not place one past the CSU keeper to keep her scoring streak alive.
The Rams managed to sneak a goal past Noa Schumacher in the 25th minute, just before the water break, and went on to hold their lead through the next 70 minutes. The Lancers had 11 shots against the Ram's defense, with three on goal. Schumacher tallied three saves against the four shots on frame from CSU.
California Baptist returns to CBU Soccer Stadium on Thursday, August 31st, as they face UTEP in their third home match of the 2023 season.
