Lancers Open Season at Nick Watney Invitational

FRESNO, CA--- The California Baptist men's golf program opened its fall season in Fresno, California, where they played in the Nick Watney Invitational. The squad carded a ninth-place finish out of fourteen teams as they introduced three new golfers to their inaugural CBU event of 2023.
Eeli Kujanpää and Kurtis Rodriguez rounded out the first round with the best scores, shooting 4-under (67). Fred Tindale also shot well during his opening tournament as a Lancer, carding a 2-under (69) score in the first round. The trio would continue to climb the leaderboard through the second round, as Tindale and Kujanpää finished the second round with a 3-under (68) score. Also competing in his first event as a Lancer, Rodriguez ended the second round at even par at 71.

Kujanpää completed the final round with a 2-over (73) score, shooting a 5-under (208) final tally that tied him for 18th out of over 100 golfers. Tindale was not far behind with a final score of 3-under (220), which was good for 22nd place. Rodriguez ended his tournament at even-par (213), and Sean Citherlet totaled 6-over (219) final score.

Newcomer Henri Nishiwaki struggled out of the gates for the Lancers but managed to flip the switch during the final round and carded an even-par 71 for his best round of the tournament. Nishiwaki ended the day with a 12-over 225, and individual competitor Ryan Fisher completed his tournament with a 16-over (229) final mark.

The Lancers will head to Greenville, North Carolina, to play in the Ironwood Collegiate Classic from October 2nd through the 3rd for their second competition of the season.
