Schumacher and Brooks Come Up Big in Power 5 Win Against Ducks

RIVERSIDE--- California Baptist University's women's soccer program traveled to the Pacific Northwest to face Oregon on Thursday evening to start the week. After a scoreless first 45 minutes, the Lancers applied heavy pressure in the second half and came away with the 1-0 win against the Ducks, the first Power 5 win for the women's soccer program. The Lancers improved to a 4-1-1 record and have yet to lose on the road this year.
"I couldn't be more proud of this group, making the improvements from last game and then beating Oregon at Oregon. This is a special team and we showed our quality tonight," remarked head coach Kristen St. Clair. "We know we have the talent, now we need to continue to prove our consistency every game".
After weathering the storm of Oregon's attack for the first ten minutes of the match, CBU settled in and began dominating in their attacking third for the majority of the first half. The Lancers fired 10 shots and had six on frame after the first 45 but could not find the back of the net. The Ducks suffered the same problem at the hands of Noa Schumacher, who tallied five saves through the first half.
Twenty minutes into the second half, CBU was rewarded for their efforts after Kaylee Hauck fired a ball across the box that was headed into the goal by Marcella Brooks off a rebound from Frida Murrieta's blocked shot. This marks Brooks' fourth goal of the season and she now leads the Lancers in goals scored.

Schumacher secured the Power 5 victory for the Lancers in the 88th minute after she impressively stopped a Ducks' penalty kick and earned her third shutout of the season. Schumacher ended the night with seven saves, while the CBU offense totaled twenty shots with five on frame. Murrieta picked up her second assist of the season and is now tied for second in points at six.

St. Clair continues, "On the goal, Hauck beat her defender crossing the ball to Murrieta. She hit a shot forcing the keeper to parry the ball into the crossbar and Brooks was there for the rebound. Our defense came up big winning balls and breaking up their attack". She finished, "Schumacher proved why she's one of the best keepers in our conference with a huge penalty kick save to secure the win and shutout. We will enjoy the win tonight and begin preparing for our Sunday opponent tomorrow".
The Lancers will return to CBU Soccer Stadium on Sunday, September 10th, to face Fresno State at 4 p.m. in a doubleheader with the California Baptist University's men's soccer program, which plays at 7 p.m. against CSUN.
