Lancers Pick Up Team Win against Seattle on Saturday

RIVERSIDE--- The California Baptist baseball program clinched its first Western Athletic Conference series on Saturday afternoon after they downed the Seattle Redhawks 9-4 at Totman Stadium. The Lancers now lead the series 2-0 and improve their overall record to 10-5 on the year, while sitting at the top of the WAC standings with Grand Canyon and UT Arlington.
It was a familiar start to the day for the Redhawks as the visitors opened the first inning with a single run after a single brought in the leadoff hitter. The one-run lead wouldn't last long for Seattle though, as Mitchel Simon and Josh Paino made their way home in the bottom of the first to take their first lead of the game. The second and third innings were a pitching stalemate, but CBU managed to break through in the bottom of the fourth after Julian Alvarez's RBI single brought home Jake Brown and a double from Paino secured a second run.
The Lancer's lead was short-lived though after back-to-back Seattle home runs brought in three runs to tie the game, however, the Redhawks could not stave off the Lancers' offense. Another two-run inning championed by Josiah Bryant and Brown would give CBU back its lead that was not relinquished through the end of the game. The runs kept coming for the Lancers as the Brown came home in the sixth after being walked in and a Simon double in the seventh brought home an eighth run. Carpentier rounded out the scoreboard with an RBI that brought home Paino to clinch the series with a 9-4 win.
Jacob Wilson was a dominant reliever on the mound for the Lancers, closing out the final three innings and allowing a single hit paired with five strikeouts. Simon and Brown led offensively for CBU, as both checked in with a pair of hits.
California Baptist is set to finish the WAC series on Sunday at Noon against Seattle and will be looking for their first series sweep.
