Lancers Notch Team Win Over Bakersfield on Monday Afternoon

RIVERSIDE--- It was a sunny Monday afternoon at Totman Stadium as the California Baptist baseball program welcomed Cal State Bakersfield for a midweek match-up. The Lancers ended their five-game losing streak with a 7-1 victory over CSUB behind a solid defensive effort. CBU collects its 30th win and improves to a 30-19 overall record.

Michael Carpentier put the Lancers on the board first with a sacrifice fly that brought in the first run of the game, going two for three at the plate with four RBI. Josh Paino also picked up an RBI in the first inning before the game would come to a stalemate from the second to the fifth inning. Neither team made their way home through the four innings, but Mitchel Simon kick-started the scoring for CBU after launching his 21 home run this season over center field. Carpentier laced a pair of singles in the sixth and seventh innings for a trio of runs before Julian Alvarez knocked a double for his first RBI of the day.

The Roadrunners managed to load the bases in the top of the ninth, attempting to make a comeback and got around the bases for a lone run, but the momentum wasn't enough to pull off the necessary six runs. Nicholas Dumesnil led the Lancers with three hits and two runs, while Cody New picked up his second win of the season after throwing four innings and allowing no runs.

California Baptist will welcome UTRGV for the Lancer's last homestand and celebrate 12 seniors on Saturday evening at 5 p.m.
