RIVERSIDE--- The California Baptist women's soccer program returns home for a lone match before continuing their away slate on Sunday in La Jolla, California. The Lancers will welcome San Jose State on Thursday evening for just the second time in program history before heading to UC San Diego this weekend.
THE LANCERS AT A GLANCE
California Baptist finished last week 0-2 after playing two tough Mountain West Conference opponents in high altitude. The Lancers fell to the Air Force 1-0 after battling windy conditions before heading down to Fort Collins to face Colorado State, where they dropped the second match 1-0. While they moved to 1-3 on the young season, CBU showed positive moments through both matches and will be ready for the Western Athletic Conference once their attack comes together. The squad is missing a few key offensive players but will be hoping to have them back before conference play begins.

Jana Heinen has anchored the squad, specifically in the backline, but has also been a part of the team's attack during set-piece opportunities. The dynamic center-back has led the Lancers and helped limit the opponents to few quality chances.

MATCH NOTES
Thursday evening will be just the second time the squads have met; the first time was last year when CBU and SJSU saw a 0-0 draw. The match was highly competitive and will likely have the same level of intensity in Riverside this year.
CBU and UCSD have played twice, but not recently. The overall series is tied 1-1, with the last two matches happening nearly ten years ago. This will be the first time the squads have dueled in the Division I Era for CBU.
THE SPARTANS AT A GLANCE
San Jose State is still on the hunt for their first win of the season after opening their season 0-2-2. SJSU began their season with a 4-0 loss to #22 Santa Clara and fell to UC Davis while picking up a pair of ties against Northeastern and Saint Mary's. The Spartans have scored just two goals this season and have allowed seven, and they will be looking to shore up their defense while increasing their attack this week.
Kennedy Mayo leads the team with a lone goal, tallying seven shots across four matches. Taylor Phillip will be one to watch, as the senior midfielder owns 11 shots and five on goal. Phillip is looking for her first goal on the season after she finished last season with 11 and five assists.
THE TRITONS AT A GLANCE
UC San Diego opened their season with a 1-3 over record, picking up their lone win against Nevada in a 3-0 emphatic victory. The Tritons have allowed five goals this season but have scored four, with Courtney Hilliard and Raquel Kalpakoff leading the way. Both seniors boast a pair of goals this season, while Hilliard added an assist to her stat sheet early this year.
The Tritons have played impressive opponents and will be a tough competitor for CBU. Regarding common opponents, UCSD opened the preseason with a friendly against Grand Canyon and came away with a 1-0 victory to start the season. The Sunday match will be highly competitive and another good tune-up for CBU before the conference play begins.
