RIVERSIDE--- Thursday night soccer was alive and well at CBU Soccer Stadium as the California Baptist women's soccer program hosted Utah Tech for its second-to-last home Western Athletic Conference match. After an early goal from the Trailblazers, the Lancers settled in and found the back of the net twice for the 2-1 victory. CBU moves to 9-7-1 on the season and maintains its second-place standing with a conference record of 5-2.

Utah Tech came out hot on the cool October night and managed to find a goal in the fifth minute for an early lead that they would hold onto for nearly the entire first half. Nikki Mau put a stop to the bleeding for the Lancers with a beautiful one-touch goal off a perfect cross from Ava Westlund to enter halftime with a 1-1 line.

Upon their return from the locker rooms, the squads kept it relatively even between shots and corner kicks. Both keepers pulled out impressive saves to keep the match tied, but it was not until a foul in the 18-yard box on Anja Jestrovic forced the referee crew to take a look at the replay. The VAR review resulted in a penalty kick for the Lancers that Jestrovic buried for her fourth goal of the season.

California Baptist staved off several more free-kick attempts from the Trailblazers in the final minutes of the match to secure the win, thanks to impressive defending from Mikayla O'Brien and her backline. CBU's win at home maintains their place in second in the conference standings and secured the squad a spot in the WAC Tournament..

The Lancers will now turn their attention to Sunday evening as they welcome Southern Utah for the final home match of the season and celebrate their eight seniors prior to the game.
