RIVERSIDE--- The postseason is officially here, and the two-seeded California Baptist women's soccer program is set to kick off its journey in Orem, Utah, as one-seeded Utah Valley plays host for the 2025 Western Athletic Conference Tournament. The Lancers are the returning tournament champs and will open the tournament against three-seeded Utah Tech on Wednesday afternoon.
The Trailblazers come to the tournament after ending the regular season on an impressive offensive note with an 8-1 win over Southern Utah. Coming off the bench, Lataya Brost put away a hat trick against the Thunderbirds and earned herself the WAC Player of the Week, rightfully. Utah Tech only outshot Southern Utah 17-8 with shots on goal, but it was the Trailblazers' goalkeeper who kept the deficit extreme after posting seven saves between the posts.
In earlier meetings this year, California Baptist reigned supreme over UTU and tallied a pair of wins over the three-seed. The most competitive game of the year came just two weeks ago after the Trailblazers opened the match with a goal in the fifth minute, but the Lancer offense settled in and found the back of the net twice to pick up the victory.
Ava Westlund still maintains the most goals for CBU this season with eight in addition to her five assists. Rising in the ranks most recently has been Anja Jestrovic, who enters the postseason with five goals and seven assists. On the defensive side of the field, Mikayla O'Brien has been a brick wall for the Lancers and owns 68 saves this season with five shutouts in conference play.
The winner of Wednesday afternoon's game will advance to the championship match, scheduled for Saturday at 3 p.m. PST.
