RIVERSIDE - California Baptist University softball senior Morgan McConnell was named the Western Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week for the first time in her career after dominating UT Arlington at home last weekend.
McConnell was transcendent against the Mavericks at Funk Stadium, collecting two wins for CBU UTA. She tossed 13.0 total innings, allowing only two earned runs off six hits while striking out seven. McConnell went the distance in Saturday's game versus the Mavericks, allowing only three hits in seven innings in a 2-1 rubber-match victory for the Lancers.
McConnell's second win also tallied career victory number 20 for the right-hander, pulling her into a tie for second-most in the Division I era with Jazmine Castaneda and just two wins behind Kerisa Viramontes for the most since going DI.
Morgan and her teammates return on the road during Easter week, stopping in Las Vegas for a midweek single against UNLV on Wednesday before continuing to St. George, Utah, to resume WAC play against Utah Tech on Friday and Saturday.
