The Lancers are now 34-13 this season, with their WAC record jumping to 10-2. CBU's 34 wins are the most in the program's Division I era, surpassing the 33-win season set by the 2023 team.
CBU remains in first place with Saturday's victory. Tarleton State sits a game behind the Lancers at 6-3. Tarleton State will equal CBU's games played next weekend with a series against Utah Valley. CBU will take a break from conference action next week before returning to WAC play on April 24.
The first history making moment came in the top of the third courtesy of Makayla Medellin. Medellin, the single-season home run and runs scored record holder, tacked on another record when she singled up the middle, driving home Matti Severns to give the Lancers a 2-1 lead. That RBI was No. 46 for Medellin this season, giving her the single-season RBI record (DI era).
Shortly after Medellin's historic hit, a weather delay halted the action for the second game in a row. Once play resumed, Arlington responded with a run in the fourth inning to equal the score.
CBU answered back in the fifth with three runs, starting with an RBI single from Severns to give the Lancers a 3-2 lead. Ashlee Annett added the next RBI on a double down the left field line. Malachy Russell-Millen then singled up the middle, pushing the Lancers lead to 5-2.
The Lancers added two more in the sixth, including RBI No. 47 for Medellin, giving the Lancers a 7-3 cushion that ultimately was the final score.
Madalyn Martin was the winning pitcher on Saturday, her sixth of the season. Martin allowed one run on two hits during her two innings of work. Emily Darwin then earned her fourth save of the season after three innings in relief.
The Lancers will be back in action in Southern California this week, starting with a trip to Westwood on Tuesday to play UCLA. After their meeting with the Bruins, the Lancers will return to John C. Funk Stadium for the second installment of the Crosstown Showdown on Thursday.
Tuesday's game against UCLA will be televised on the Big Ten Network.
