Dumesnil Leads Comeback Sunday Win Over Wolverines

OREM, UT--- The California Baptist baseball program salvaged their weekend series with a Sunday 9-7 win over the Utah Valley Wolverines. Nicholas Dumesnil had himself a game, bringing home six of the nine runs scored for the Lancer victory to avoid being swept by UVU. CBU improves to 23-21 overall and 6-9 in Western Athletic Conference play.

Dumesnil got things moving for the Lancers right away, securing his first RBI of the afternoon in the top of the first. Both sides stayed scoreless through the next inning, but CBU would double their lead in the top of the third after a fielding error from the UVU first baseman failed to end the inning and scored a Lancer runner. A hefty offensive inning from the home squad saw five runs come across home plate in the bottom of the fourth to secure UVU's first lead of the game.

The Wolverines continued to dribble in runs through the next two innings before CBU's pitching staff posted two scoreless final innings of the Sunday match-up. A two-run bomb from Dumesnil in the top of the seventh made it a 7-6 ball game before he would do it again in the top of the ninth to secure the lead. Jake Brown got in on the home run fun with a solo shot of his own to push CBU's lead to 9-7.

Dumesnil now owns eight home runs on the season with 16 doubles and a team-high 42 RBI. He also matched the season-high of six RBI in a single game. Riley Hunsaker secured his first collegiate pitching win after tossing 1.1 innings and giving up just one hit before skipper Gary Adcock brought in Cody New to finish out the much-needed win.

CBU will return to Riverside for a Monday midweek tilt against UC Riverside across town at 6:30 p.m.
