SEATTLE, WA--- The California Baptist baseball program closed out its Western Athletic Conference series on Sunday afternoon with a 6-2 loss to Seattle U. The Lancers still take the series win 2-1, but fall to 11-10 in WAC standings and move to a 28-24 overall record.
The Redhawks managed to keep the CBU offense quiet through four innings after tacking on a trio of runs for a steadfast lead. Julian Alvarez put the Lancers on the board with an RBI single in the top of the fifth before Matt Chavez would repeat in the top of the sixth to cut the Redhawks' lead to one. CBU's best chance of the day to take the lead came in the seventh after Nicholas Dumesnil hit a triple with one out and Andrew Walters found his way on base after getting hit by a pitch, but the Lancers were unable to bring the runners home. Seattle U went on to extend their lead to 6-2 in the bottom of the eighth, salvaging the weekend series with a lone win. Dumesnil dominated at the plate again against the Redhawks, posting three hits while Chavez secured two hits and one RBI.
The Lancers' Sunday loss puts them in sole possession of fifth place going into the final series of the regular season, beginning Thursday as CBU welcomes Abilene Christian to Totman Stadium.
