Lancers Best Matadors with Early Goal

NORTHRIDGE, CA--- The California Baptist women's soccer program secured its second win of the 2025 season on Sunday evening after besting CSUN on the road in a 1-0 battle. Kaylee Hauck netted her first goal of the year in the first half to carry the Lancers to their first road victory and improve their record to 2-2 on the season.
"Winning on the road is a learned skill that every team has to learn each new season. I thought our attack created some very good scoring opportunities forcing their goalkeeper to come up with some big saves," remarked Head Coach Kristen St. Clair. "Our defense did a great job winning balls and eliminating their attack in our half of the field. We're focusing on the controlling the controllables and making good progress everyday".
In what was an extremely physical match that saw 25 fouls and six yellow cards across the 90 minutes, the game ultimately went CBU's way thanks to a savvy pass from Ava Lopez to set Hauck up for the game-winner in the 15th minute of the match. The visit to CSUN was one of the Lancers' best offense games of the season, with 10 shots and six on frame that gave way to the squad's second goal of the year. Rebecca Winton earned her first collegiate start between the posts for California Baptist and posted a trio of saves to secure the clean sheet, tallying a total of two shutout matches this season for the Lancers.
"I'm really proud of our team's grit and fight tonight. We discussed outworking our opponent, winning balls, and winning our 1v1 situations and we certainly did that tonight. Our goal came off a set piece, as Ava Lopez sent in a nice ball to Kaylee Hauck who beat the defender and scored from a difficult angle. We'll enjoy this tonight and begin preparing for our next opponent," finished St. Clair.
The victory against the Matadors was much needed heading into the third week of the year, as the Lancers will make their way to Hawai'i to participate in the University of Hawai'i Tournament, beginning Thursday evening.
