RIVERSIDE--- The California Baptist women's soccer team is coming off a solid 1-0 win over CSUN for an improved record of 2-2 as they enter the fourth week of competition. The Lancers will play their next two matches in Honolulu this week as they participate in the University of Hawai'i Tournament, facing a pair of opponents for the first time in program history.
Kaylee Hauck was the hero against the Matadors, striking the match's lone goal in the first half to secure CBU's second win of the young season. Rebecca Winton earned her first collegiate start between the posts for California Baptist and posted a trio of saves to secure the clean sheet, tallying a total of two shutout matches this season for the Lancers. CBU will be on the hunt for more goals with just a pair on the season, but it will have to stem from more goal-scoring opportunities generated in the midfield. Currently, the Lancers have 25 shots on the season with just 15 on frame.
South Dakota State enters its match against California Baptist with a 2-1-1 record and is coming off a recent 2-0 win over Hawai'i Pacific on Monday. The Jackrabbits have been stellar on defense this season, limiting their opponents to just two goals. On the flip side, SDSU has ten goals on the year as both Hailee Christiansen and Deizha Lyn Jacinto own three goals each across the four matches played. CBU will need to be firm on defense and limit chances early, while testing the Jackrabbit keeper to keep momentum on the Lancers' side.
For Hawai'i, the Rainbow Wahine enter the fourth week of competition 1-2-1 as they welcome both Northern Arizona on Thursday and the Lancers on Sunday to Waipio Peninsula Soccer Stadium. The squad has allowed seven goals while scoring four over its four matches, owning one victory on the year with a 1-0 win over Central Arkansas. The lack of goals does not come from a lack of effort for Hawai'i, as the team boasts 49 shots this season compared to their opponents' 50.
The matches in Hawai'i will not be streamed, but fans can follow live stats for the games here.
