RIVERSIDE--- The California Baptist men's water polo team will embark on its 2025, beginning Friday, with the Lancers coming off a very successful 2024 campaign that saw ranked wins and a West Coast Conference Tournament Championship. The Lancers will open their year in Irvine, California, during a four-game tournament hosted by the University of California, Irvine, this weekend.
Kevin Rosa returns 13 Lancers from the previous season, while welcoming 11 new players to the squad. Of the returning class, Lancer fans will be excited to see Andrea Nuzzo and Alex Righetti returning to the pool to lead CBU in what will be the final season as a part of the WCC. Nuzzo played in all 36 games last season for the Lancers, finishing with the second-most goals for the Lancers at 69 with 31 assists. The sophomore attacker picked up valuable experience this past summer after he was invited to compete with the Italian National Water Polo Team and will bring a strong water polo maturity to the pool this season. Additionally, Nuzzo was selected to the Preseason All-WCC Team after his solid debut season. Righetti will lead the senior class as he comes off a strong 2024 campaign with 49 goals and 25 steals for CBU.
Of its 32-game spread, CBU will host 10 home games, including three WCC games against Pepperdine, Santa Clara, and San Jose State. The WCC Tournament is slated for Friday, November 21st, through Sunday, November 23rd, in USAF, Colorado, as Air Force will play host this season. CBU will be on the hunt for its third appearance at the NCAA Tournament under the direction of Coach Rosa.
