RIVERSIDE --- CBU's Hugo Do Rego and Blake D'Agostino have earned the respect of their peers, as the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) announced the two Lancers as WAC weekly award winners. The honors come after a 2-0 week, capped off with a historic victory on Monday night.
The Lancers are 5-1-1 this season, with one non-conference match remaining. CBU kicked off last week with a 3-1 victory in Tulsa and followed it up with a shutout of No. 20 UC Irvine on Monday night in Riverside.
Goalkeeper Hugo Do Rego was a stone wall for the Lancers throughout the week. The Luxembourg native allowed one goal in 180 minutes while totaling 13 saves, earning him WAC Goalkeeper of the Week.
Do Rego registered a season-high seven saves in CBU's victory against Tulsa. He continued his strong play with six saves in a shutout of UC Irvine. The shutout was Do Rego's second of the season. His 31 saves this season are second-most in the WAC, while his 4.43 saves per match lead the conference.
Monday's award is Do Rego's fifth career WAC Goalkeeper of the Week nod.
D'Agostino, a striker out of Colorado, has been unstoppable throughout the non-conference schedule, as his six goals are tied for the most in the conference.
The sophomore striker scored in both the Tulsa and UC Irvine matches, extending his goal-scoring streak to six matches in a row. D'Agostino holds the second-longest goal-scoring streak in CBU's Division I history, trailing only Luis Mueller, who scored in seven straight matches in 2023.
This is the first WAC Player of the Week award for D'Agostino.
Monday night's victory was historic for the CBU men's soccer program as it marked the first win against a ranked opponent in CBU's Division I era.
The Lancers will wrap up their non-conference schedule on Friday night when they travel crosstown to take on UC Riverside. The WAC schedule will begin on October 4 when the Lancers visit San Jose State.
