RIVERSIDE --- Over 4,000 fans filed into the Dale E. and Sarah Ann Fowler Events Center for Homecoming on Saturday night. The main event of Homecoming weekend was a matchup between the Lancers and Tarleton State, and backed by an 82-67 performance, the Lancers sent their fans home happy.
Saturday's victory improves CBU's record to 21-8, matching the most wins in a single season during CBU's Division I era.
There were only 1:44 seconds of Saturday night's tilt that didn't show CBU leading on the scoreboard, and that was during a 0-0 stretch before Dominique Daniels Jr. scored the first bucket of the event. The Lancers then led for the final 38:16 seconds, pushing their lead as high as 18 points near the midway point of the opening half.
"We knew it was going to be an unbelievable environment. Lancer Nation showed up in a big way, and our guys represented," said head coach Rick Croy about Saturday's Homecoming environment.
Croy continued, "I'm so proud of how we competed. We came out of the gates with great focus. We knew Tarleton would swing back, and they did. They have an unbelievably competitive group, and we just stayed at the task, even when it got a little choppy."
The Lancers connected on 42 percent from the field, with their first-half shooting performance nearly touching 50 percent (8-for-22). CBU knocked down eight 3-pointers and finished 24-of-29 (83 percent) at the line.
Leading the charge was Daniels Jr. as he scored 23 points in his penultimate home contest. Daniels Jr. knocked down 7-of-19 from the field, four coming behind the arc, as he also dished out four assists.
Devon Malcolm and Martel Williams were next with 12 points each. Malcolm and Williams each had a highlight moment, as both threw down monstrous dunks in the first half to have the Fowler Events Center on its feet.
Dior Johnson, who did not play in Tarleton's visit to Riverside on February 5, led the Texans with 24 points.
Saturday's victory keeps CBU unbeaten at home this season as they move to 14-0 and are winners of 18 straight in Riverside dating back to last season. There will be one more chance to wrap up a perfect season in Riverside, as the Lancers host Abilene Christian on Thursday for Senior Night.
Five seniors will be honored in a pregame presentation: Daniels Jr., Williams, Jayden Jackson, Miles Daniels, and Monty Bowser.
Croy offered a message to the CBU fans, urging them to come out on Thursday, adding, "This senior class that we have is deep in talent, deep in character, and deep in love for CBU and this community. We need everyone to show up and take us home. We only have one more left in this building, and we need you."
