CBU Secures Series Versus the Dons

SAN FRANCISCO, CA--- California Baptist baseball finished out their weekend with one last win versus the University of San Francisco after earning the 2-1 victory behind solid pitching. Freddy Capacete had the performance of the day with six strikeouts through five innings and led the Lancers to the series win, improving their record to 10-3 on the season.
Both pitching staffs showed out for the final game of the series as they both allowed five or fewer hits. San Francisco found their way onto the board in the first inning after a solo shot, but from then on the Lancers staved off any offensive momentum from the Dons, including a ninth-inning rally that was stopped by a Chris Ramirez throw home. Small ball was the name of the game for the CBU offense, as both their runs came across via groundball outs that moved their runners around.
Joining Capacete on the Sunday pitching staff were Zachary Yates, Kody Smathers, and Cameron Teper, who all combined for 12 strikeouts. At the plate, Ramirez led the Lancers with one hit and one RBI. California Baptist leaves the weekend with 43 hits, while striking out 57 Dons.
CBU will return home to Riverside to face off in the infamous Crosstown Showdown versus UC Riverside on Tuesday before heading to Utah to compete against Brigham Young University next weekend.
