RIVERSIDE --- For the second time in program history, the Player of the Year for the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) resides in Riverside. Announced by the conference office on Tuesday evening, guard Dominique Daniels Jr. has been voted the 2026 WAC Player of the Year.
Daniels Jr. joins an exclusive club of CBU Player of the Year winners, as he and Milan Acquah (2020) are the only players to have won the award at the Division I level.
It was a wire-to-wire season for the graduate guard. Daniels Jr. began the year as the Preseason WAC Player of the Year, and throughout the season, he was named the conference's Player of the Week seven times. The 2025-26 season featured Daniels Jr. surpassing Acquah as the program's leading scorer of the Division I era, breaking a 55-year-old scoring record when he posted 47 points, and surpassing 3,000 points for his collegiate career.
In 30 games, Daniels Jr. scored a Division I era record 677 points and averaged 22.6 PPG, the eighth-best scoring average in all of Division I. Daniels Jr. needs 49 more points to surpass Michael Smith (2015-16) for the most points in a single season in CBU history.
The Lancers are hoping for at least three more games of the Daniels Jr. era, as two wins in Las Vegas this week at the WAC Tournament will send CBU to the NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Championship for the first time in program history.
Daniels Jr. is one of five people honored by the WAC with of the year status. Rich Smith of Abilene Christian is the Defensive Player of the Year. Elijah Duval of Southern Utah is the Freshman of the Year. Dior Johnson of Tarleton State is the Player of the Year. Jon Judkins of Utah Tech is the Coach of the Year.
Player of the Year recognition also comes with WAC All-Conference First-Team status. Daniels Jr. is joined on the first team by Bradyn Hubbard (Abilene Christian), Ethan Potter (Utah Tech), Jackson Holcombe (Utah Valley), and Trevan Leonhardt (Utah Valley).
Earning a selection on the WAC All-Conference Second Team is CBU's Martel Williams. The senior guard averaged 13.1 PPG and 4.8 RPG in 30 appearances (all starts). Williams scored a career-high 23 points in a January win at ACU and pulled down a career-best 12 boards against Western Illinois in the Fowler Events Center.
Jordan Muller is the third CBU player recognized by the WAC, as he was named to the WAC All-Freshman Team. The German guard appeared in 31 games with nine starts. His best performance was a 22-point game against San Diego in the Acrisure Series. He dished out a season-best seven assists in a December trip to Eastern Washington.
The Lancers, who are in their final season of WAC membership, will wrap up their WAC era this weekend at the WAC Tournament in Las Vegas. CBU enters as the second seed and is scheduled to play on Friday at 8:30 p.m.
Friday's game will be streamed on ESPN+. The WAC Championship Game on Saturday is scheduled for 9 p.m. and will be televised on ESPN2.
