Two Lancers Earn Big West Player of the Week Honors

IRVINE, Calif. – The Lancers claimed two of three Big West Player of the Week awards, the conference announced Monday afternoon, as graduate goalkeeper Mikayla O'Brien was named Defensive Player of the Week and freshman forward Bella D'Amico earned Rookie of the Week honors.
The two Lancers each made a major impact in CBU's lone match of the week, a 2-0 victory over UC Santa Barbara on Thursday.
O'Brien recorded her third clean sheet of the season and the 16th of her career, helping the Lancers hold UCSB to 13 shots, with just three on target. She finished the match with three saves and has recorded 10 saves through the first four games of the season.
D'Amico scored her first career CBU goal in the 65th minute to give the Lancers a 1-0 lead. Just moments after entering the match alongside senior midfielder Anja Jestrovic, D'Amico received a through ball from Jestrovic and fired a shot from outside the box into the upper corner for one of the Lancers' most spectacular goals of the season. The goal came on D'Amico's only shot of the match, as she played 32 minutes.
D'Amico has provided valuable minutes off the bench for head coach Kristen St. Clair through the opening weeks of the season, with her role expected to continue growing as the season progresses.
The Lancers have yet to allow a goal this season, extending their unbeaten and clean-sheet streak to four games. It marks the first time in the Division I era and just the second time in program history that CBU has opened a season with four consecutive shutouts, joining the 2006 team that accomplished the feat when CBU competed at the NAIA level.
CBU will return to action for another one-game week when it hosts North Alabama on Thursday, Sept. 3, at 7 p.m. at CBU Soccer Stadium. The match will stream live on ESPN+, with tickets available at cbulancers.com.
