Yoshimura Named Big West Rookie of the Week

IRVINE, Calif. – Freshman forward Maya Yoshimura was named the Big West Rookie of the Week on Monday afternoon following her two-goal performance against North Alabama last week.
Yoshimura earns her first career Big West weekly honor and the third weekly award for CBU this season. The Honolulu, Hawaii, native scored her first two collegiate goals in the Lancers' 3-0 shutout victory over the Lions, helping CBU secure its fourth consecutive win and fifth straight clean sheet.
Yoshimura recorded three shots in the match, with all three finding the target. The three shots marked her first attempts of the season after recording none in her previous appearances. She played 33 minutes in the contest, her second-highest minute total of the season.
With two goals this season, Yoshimura ranks seventh among Big West freshmen in goals and is tied with fellow Lancer and forward Tyra King.
Yoshimura's breakout performance adds another weapon to a deep CBU squad as she continues to compete for additional minutes and looks to capitalize on her opportunities.
The Lancers will have 10 days off before returning to action for their final nonconference match of the season against San Diego on Sept. 7 at 7 p.m. at home.
