Sean Hanrahan joined California Baptist in April 2026 as an inaugural member of coach Kyle Getter’s coaching staff. Hanrahan joins the Lancers after serving as the Head Coach and Director of Athletics at Warner University in Lake Wales, FL.
“Sean is someone that I have known for almost 30 years,” said Getter. “He is a tremendous coach and teacher, as demonstrated by his success over his 18-year career as the head coach at Warner University. He is a perfect fit for CBU basketball and will be an integral part of our future success.”
Hanrahan is the all-time winningest coach in Warner University history, holding a record of 335-191 in his 18 years leading the Royals.
During those 18 years with the Royals, Hanrahan led Warner to five Sun Conference championships, twice in back-to-back years. The Royals made seven NAIA National Tournament appearances, including runs to the Sweet Sixteen and Elite Eight.
The Royals won 20 games in ten of Hanrahan’s 18 years as head coach. Warner won 26 games in back-to-back seasons (2015-16, 1016-17), with the 2016-17 team posting an .839 winning percentage, the highest during Hanrahan’s tenure. Hanrahan also guided the Royals to 11 winning seasons in conference play, including a program-best 13-3 (.812) run in the 2015-26 campaign.
Hanrahan’s tenure as Warner’s head coach ended after the 2023-14 season as he became the university’s Director of Athletics. Hanrahan held the full-time athletic director position for two years before leaving to join Getter’s staff.
Before Warner, Hanrahan spent five seasons as an assistant coach at Florida Southern College, where he won four conference championships. His duties ranged from recruiting to running the program’s Sixth Man Club. While at FSC, he helped the Moccasins to a 102-45 record and two trips to the NCAA Tournament. The Mocs were annually ranked among the top ten defensive teams in the country, in both scoring average and field goal percentage defense.
Hanrahan also spent time on the staff at Rollings College. In his two seasons, Rollings made two NCAA Tournament appearances, including an Elite Eight finish. In addition to being an assistant coach, Hanrahan also oversaw strength & conditioning for the men’s basketball program.
Away from the college ranks, Hanrahan was USA Basketball’s Men’s U19 Court Coach in 2017 for the FIBA World Cup Championships. He has also worked with over 30 NBA players during their college careers, including Chris Paul and Kevin Durant, assisting them with draft preparation. He has also directed camps for NBA, NFL, and MLS athletes, including: Isaiah Thomas, Karl Anthony Towns, Lonzo Ball, Markelle Fultz, Jarvis Landry, Larry Fitzgerald, and Alex Morgan.
Originally from Cincinnati, OH, Hanrahan played college basketball at Hanover College. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Hanover with a double major in psychology and physical education with an emphasis on exercise physiology and nutrition.
Hanrahan and his wife, Brandi, have two children: daughter Mya Ann and son Jordan.
