RIVERSIDE, Calif. --- It's clear that the future is bright when a team's second-string goalie allows just one goal in an entire game.
That's what California Baptists' Julie Abendschein did Tuesday, as the Lancers posted a 10-1 victory over Siena, to improve to 5-3 on the season. Abendschein, who posted 9 saves, helped the team stop the Saints' only 2 6-on-5 situations in the win, as CBU converted on 3 of its 4 6-on-5 opportunities on the afternoon.
"We played very good defense in support of Julie this afternoon," said CBU co-head coach Mike Moreno. "It was a good day in that we kept the scoring down and were able to keep up our offensive output throughout the game."
Senior utility Cheryl Ogden scored 2 goals, as junior utility Cydney Owen and senior driver Stephanie Glendenning eached tucked away a pair of goals in the win. Junior driver Whitney Shaw, along with junior driver Corrie Stuursma, senior driver Kelly Perez and senior utility Stacey Rahn all 4 scored to round out CBU's 10-goal output.
The Lancers scored 2 goals in each of the first 2 periods, before netting a trio of goals in periods 3 and 4.
