RIVERSIDE, Calif. --- Corrie Stuursma's 7 goals over a pair of games yesterday weren't enough, as the junior driver scored a trio of goals, as California Baptist held off Iona, 10-6, Thursday afternoon.
The Lancers win their fourth in a row, including 8 of their last 9, as they improve to 8-3 on the campaign. The Gaels drop to 4-2 with the loss.
CBU scored 4 times in the first period, including 2 tallies from Whitney Shaw, as they took a 6-1 lead into halftime. Iona's Amanda Brucia, who scored 3 goals altogether, scored twice in the third period to bring the Gaels back into the game, but the Lancers kept pace with goals from Cydney Owen, Stuursma and Stacey Rahn, and brought a 9-4 lead into the fourth period.
Amanda Cody scored 2 goals in the fourth quarter, but Stuursma's goal helped make the final score 10-6.
It was the third game over a span of just 2 days for California Baptist, which hosts the Lancer Invitational No. 2 tomorrow and Saturday.
