RIVERSIDE, Calif. ? Collette Brown and Chelsey Gentry lifted California Baptist to its sixth straight win with a 9-7 victory over Cal State Bakersfield, a team that that gave the Lancers their last loss.
Brown broke a 7-7 tie with 5:23 left to grab the game-winning goal before Gentry put the contest on ice with 1:23 left to score the win.
The Lancers (10-5) had seven different players in the book by the end of the match. Cydney Owen and Julie Snodgrass both scored a pair of goals while Corrie Stuursma, Whitney Shaw, Brown, Gentry and Kylie Chevalier all had single goals.
Snodgrass also dished out two assists, notched four steals and drew an ejection.
“This was a good win for us,” said CBU head coach Jake Medina. “To be able to come back from a loss to Bakersfield less than two weeks ago and have seven different players from our team score, that shows great team effort. It was good to see the girls play up and get up big for this game. It was also nice to have one of our seniors step up for us in Julie.”
The Lancers trailed 3-1 early in the first half, but got goals from Owen and Stuursma to tie it at three to end the first half. Owen capped a 3-1 run with a goal to open the second half to take a 4-3 lead.
The Roadrunners answered scoring three straight goals to take a 6-4 lead, but back-to-back goals from Stuursma and Shaw tied the contest at 6-6 heading into the fourth. Chevalier put CBU up 7-6 with a goal early in the fourth, but CSUB answered tying it at seven. That's when Brown and Gentry put the game away.
The Lancers now get ready to host Chapman University tomorrow at the Lancers Aquatic Center at 11:00 a.m. They will be looking to string together 7 consecutive wins.
