RIVERSIDE, Calif. ? For the second straight game, California Baptist had two different players notch hat tricks as both Cydney Owen and Corrie Stuursma accounted for six goals in a 13-7 win over Iona.
The Lancers (13-5) won their ninth straight game and recently received votes in the Collegiate Water Polo Top 20 poll.
Chelsea Gentry and Whitney Shaw each scored a pair of goals while Julie Snodgrass, Kylie Chevalier and Rachel Esau all scored single goals. Julie Abendschein picked up nine saves.
The Lancers broke a 2-2 tie in the first quarter on back-to-back goals by Owen. Iona cut the lead to 4-3 with a goal with 1:42 left in the first.
CBU opened the second quarter with a 4-0 run on goals from Stuursma, Gentry, Owen and Esau before a goal by the Gaels made it 8-4 at the half.
The Lancers put the game away in the third quarter as Stuursma added two goals while Shaw scored the other as CBU blanked Iona in the third. Gentry and Chevalier put the finishing touches on the win with solo goals in the fourth.
CBU will now take on Gannon at 2 p.m. tomorrow in the Lancer Invite at the Lancer Aquatics Center.
