BAKERSFIELD, Calif. ? Jennifer Grutz had a career day, scoring seven goals for California Baptist University in a pair of wins over Cal Lutheran and Cal State Monterey Bay.
The Lancers (4-5) downed the Regals 11-6 before handing the Otters a 12-8 decision.
Grutz netted a hat trick in each game with three against Cal Lutheran and four against Monterey Bay.
The Lancers trailed twice at 2-1 and 3-2 against Cal Lutheran before Rachel Esau sparked a 4-1 run to end the second quarter to give CBU a 6-4 lead at the half. Chelsea Gentry opened the third quarter with a goal to give the Lancers a 7-4 lead before the Regals answered, making it 7-5.
Ashleigh Rood and Esau added a pair of goals to end the third before Kylie Chevalier and Grutz opened the fourth with consecutive goals to complete a 4-0 run to take an 11-5 lead.
Easu along Grutz notched a hat trick while Chevalier and Rood each notched two goals.
Against the Otters, Grutz scored three goals in the fourth quarter alone. With the scored tied at 6-6 to start the fourth, Grutz netted back-to-back goals to put CBU up 8-6. Monterey Bay answered just 13 seconds later to make it 8-7. Grutz then put the Lancers up 9-7 before Esau gave the Lancers a three-goal lead with 2:16 left. The Otters scored their last goal with 2:03 in the game before Chevalier and Collette Brown closed it out with a pair of goals.
Brown matched Grutz with a four-goal game as well while Chevalier had two and Esau and Sarah Hunter each had one.
