RIVERSIDE, Calif. ? California Baptist withstood a charging Concordia offense that cut a five-goal deficit to just one with just seconds left. The Lancers (5-5) however were able to run out the clock to pull off an 8-7 win despite going scoreless in the final 6:52 of play.
Ashleigh Rood and Jennifer Grutz each scored a pair of goals to pace CBU while Sam Gelberger scored five goals for the Eagles with three coming in the fourth quarter.
CBU scored the first five goals of the game before Gelberger scored her first of the game to make it 5-1 at the half. Chelsea Gentry and Grutz pushed the score to 7-1 with back-to-back goals, with 3:44 left in the third, before Gelberger netted her second goal of the contest.
Gelberger opened the final quarter with a goal, but Kylie Chevalier answered right back to give the Lancers an 8-3 lead with 6:52 left. That was the last goal CBU scored.
Gelberger brought the Eagles within four before Tuesday Schellinger scored her first of the day, making it 8-6. Danielle O'Toole made it a two-goal game with 2:45 left and Gelberger scored her final goal of the game with 17 seconds left, but that was not enough time left for the Eagles to force overtime.
Camryn Rogers and Kristen Post combined for 10 saves with Rogers posting a game-high eight saves. Gentry, Tiffany Strickland, Chevalier and Rylee Scheid each scored single goals. Chevalier dished out a match-high four assists while Melissa Shepardson had a team-high two steals.
It was the first three-game winning streak of the year for CBU.
The Lancers now hit the road as the travel to Santa Clara, Friday, and the take on Pacific and Fresno Pacific Saturday.
