LA MIRADA, Calif. ? Sarah Hurlbut came back to life for California Baptist University, going 3-for-6 with four RBIs and three runs scored in a doubleheader against Biola. The junior went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and a triple in a 5-0 win in the opener before going 1-for-3 with three-run home run in a 5-4 win in the nightcap.
Tory Ferreira (8-0) pitched her second shutout of the year, throwing the complete seven innings. She allowed just five hits and struck out two.
The Lancers (21-1, 5-1 GSAC) broke a scoreless tie in the top of the third when Hurlbut tripled to right field to score Tina Galinato. Hurlbut then came around to score on Ashley Boyd's single to left center. Boyd added another run in the fifth when she hit her seventh home run of the year with two outs.
CBU put the final touches on in the sixth when Briana Corral ripped a two-out, two-run single to center, scoring both Galinato and Hurlbut.
The Lancers had to rally late in second game, scoring a run each in the sixth and seventh after trailing 4-3.
The Eagles took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the third when Keena Levert hit a two-run double to left center, but the Lancers answered in the top of the fourth with three of their own. Nina Cabrales reached on a fielder's choice before Galinto put runners at first and second when she reached on an error. Hurlbut then cleared the bases with her second home run of the year to put CBU up 3-2.
Biola retook the lead, at 4-3, in the fifth when Lavert roped a two-run single to right.
CBU tied the game at 4-4 in the top of the sixth when Cabrales scored from third after Galinato got in a rundown between second and first. Cabrales reached with a one-out triple down the right field line. Nikki Lowe drove in the game-winning run when she doubled to right in the seventh to score Ashley LaCombe.
Melanie Ahumada (8-1) picked up the win after throwing the final 2.2 innings. She allowed just one hit and struck out one. Ahumada came on in relief for starter Emma Holden who threw the first 4.1 innings, allowing four runs on three hits and she walked three.
The Lancers now will host No. 2 Point Loma Nazarene, Saturday, for a noon doubleheader.
