Lightning Delay Sparks CBU's Offense in Semifinal Win

The Lancers, now 42-16, will wait to see who their next opponent is, as three teams and two games remain on Friday. CBU will play either Utah Valley, Southern Utah, or Tarleton.
Friday's game got underway at noon in Texas, and with Miranda De Nava in the circle, the Texans got to her for three runs in the top of the first thanks to a three-run homer. The long ball came with De Nava one strike away from getting out of the inning.
The Lancers quickly countered the early runs with a three-run inning in the bottom half. Kenzie Farrier-Pilon and Victoria Macias drove in runs on base hits. Ashlee Annett also drove in a run with a sacrifice fly. CBU looked to threaten again in the second, placing a runner in scoring position with one out, but the game was then halted due to lightning.
What was originally set to be a 30-minute delay turned into a three-hour break, as the game resumed at 3:45 (CT).
Malachy Russell-Millen was in the batter's box with a full count at the time of the stoppage. When her plate appearance resumed, she saw ball four, sparking the rally. Farrier-Pilon was first to cash in with a two-run single. Next came Makayla Medellin who smashed a three-run home run deep to left field, making it an 8-3 game. Sydney Peterson wrapped up the six-run outburst with an RBI double.

Head coach Brandon Telesco turned to Emily Darwin to take the circle in the top of the third. Darwin tossed the next three innings, allowing one run on four hits as she recorded her 12th victory of the season.
CBU gave Darwin more run support in the third when Farrier-Pilon and Annett added to their RBI totals. The final blow came in the fourth when Sydney Peterson hammered a ball deep over the left field fence, her first home run with CBU, and first since 2022 with LSU.

Peterson finished 2-for-3 for the second consecutive day. Macias and Medellin both added two hits. Farrier-Pilon led the way with a three-hit showing.
The Lancers' next opponent will be determined late Friday night, as two elimination games follow CBU's 12-4 victory. Utah Valley and Southern Utah will play first, with the winner moving on to play Tarleton State. The winner of the final game will advance to Game 10 of the WAC Tournament and take on the Lancers.
CBU has the winner's bracket advantage entering Saturday. One victory will crown the Lancers tournament champions, but their opponent will have to beat CBU twice in order to punch their ticket to the NCAA Tournament.
First pitch on Saturday is scheduled for 11 a.m. (PST).
