CLAREMONT, Calif. ? California Baptist University swept a pair of games Saturday at the Claremont Mudd-Scripps tournament. The Lancers (14-8) downed Redlands, 11-4, before it upended George Washington, 12-6.
Jennifer Grutz scored seven goals on the day with four coming against Redlands.
The Lancers blanked the Bulldogs 7-0 in the first half, scoring three in the first quarter and four in the second. CBU held a 9-0 lead in the third before giving way to a Redlands 4-2 run to close out the game.
Chelsea Gentry netted a hat trick while Collette Brown scored two. Melissa Shepardson and Rylee Scheid scored a goal each. Kylie Chevalier dished out two assists while Ashleigh Rood recorded four steals. Camryn Rogers and Kristen Post combined for eight saves with Rogers notching a team-high six.
The Lancers were 3-for-4 on 6-on-5 attempts and held the Bulldogs to just 1-for-4.
Grutz netted a hat trick against George Washington while Gentry, Chevalier, Rood and Shepardson all scored a pair of goals. Sarah Hunter also scored a single goal. Rogers posted 10 saves.
CBU went 3-for-7 in 6-on-5 chances while holding the Colonials to 1-for-5.
The Lancers now get set for a pair of home contests, Thursday, with Pacific and Iona. CBU will take on the Tigers at 10:30 a.m. before playing the Gaels at 3:30 p.m.
