SANTA BARBARA, Calif. ? Four might be Ashleigh Rood's lucky number after the senior scored four goals each in splitting games with Pacific and Bucknell in the final day of the Gaucho Spring Invite.
The Lancers (11-8) opened the day with a 13-7 win over the Tigers before falling 11-9 to the Bison.
Rood fueled CBU to a stellar second half against Pacific in which it scored nine goals while holding the Tigers to three. The Lancers led 3-1 after the first quarter, but Pacific reversed the roles with a 3-1 second to tie it at 4-4 at the half. CBU exploded in the third and fourth and shut down the Tiger's offense. The Lancers scored five in the third and four in the fourth.
Melissa Shepardson and Chelsea Gentry each netted a hat trick while Jennifer Grutz scored two goals. It was the first hat trick of the year for Shepardson. Kylie Chevalier also found the back of the net once. Camryn Rogers also posted six saves in the win.
Bucknell took it to the Lancers in the opening period of each half, scoring five in the first and four in the third. CBU trailed just by two after the first, 5-3, and at the half, 6-4, but the Bison built up an insurmountable lead in the third. Bucknell out scored CBU 4-1 in the third to take a 10-5 lead heading into the fourth. The Lancers tried to mount a rally, outscoring the Bison 4-1 in the fourth, but it was not enough to overcome the five-goal deficit.
Outside of Rood's four goals, Grutz added two while Tiffany Strickland, Chevalier and Rylee Scheid each scored one. Rogers also recorded nine saves.
