POMONA, Calif. ? Jennifer Grutz and Chelsea Gentry each scored four goals for California Baptist University in an 11-6 win over Pomona-Pitzer. Gentry also dished out a pair of assists and notched two steals while going 4-for-4 from the field. Grutz also added a steal
The Lancers (19-18) led just 6-4 early in the second half, but closed with a 5-2 run to grab the victory.
Kylie Chevalier also added a pair of goals while Tiffany Strickland scored one and both recorded a steal and an assist. Ashleigh Rood and Camryn Rogers came up big on the defensive end with Rood grabbing six steals and Rogers pulling down a career-high 18 saves. The freshman keeper also dished out three assists.
The Lancers blanked the Sagehens 4-0 in the opening quarter but Pomona answered back with a 3-2 second that made it 6-3 at intermission. The Sagehens scored early in the second, making it 6-4, but CBU was able to push it to 7-4 heading into the fourth. The Lancers put it away with a 4-2 fourth quarter to seal the five-goal win.
The Lancers were 11-for-17 from the field and 1-for-3 on 6-on-5 attempts. CBU held Pomona to 1-for-8 on 6-on-5 chances.
The Lancers now end the season with the NAIA Women's Water Polo Invitational Friday and Saturday.
