In the clash that transpired between the Lancers ad Broncos, CBU came out of the first quarter on top, leading 3-2. By halftime though, SCU had battled back to take a 6-4 lead, thanks to a 4-goal second quarter. The Lancers opened the second half with a 6-spot in the third quarter to retake the lead, 10-8, heading into the final period. The Broncos netted three scores in the final quarter, to the Lancers' one, to knot the game at 11-11, sending it into overtime. CBU drew first blood, scoring once in the first overtime, but SCU posted two goals in the second overtime to edge out a victory.
Kylie Chevalier led the Lancers in the scoring column with a hat trick, while Collette Brown, Alyssa Birch and Chelsea Gentry each recorded a pair of scores in the game.
The second game of the tournament for the Lancers ended much more pleasantly for CBU as they continued to pile on the goals. The strategy for the contest with CSUMB appeared to be score early and often, as the Lancers took a 10-2 lead by halftime. Though the Lancers allowed the Otters to score three more times across the final two periods, CBU added four more goals of their own, handily taking the win.
Five Lancers scored a pair of goals in the second game, including Jennifer Grutz, Melissa Shepardson, Petra Kovacs and Morgan Barrows, while Birch added her second pair of scores on the day.
After playing five games in four days, the Lancers will not be back in action until Friday, when they travel to Thousand Oaks, Calif., to play in the Cal Lutheran Tournament. CBU will play Claremont-Mudd-Scripps at 11 a.m., before taking on California at 2:45 p.m.
