RIVERSIDE, Calif. --- California Baptist University scored the first 12 goals of the game and never looked back in a 19-4 rout of NCAA Division III Macalester Wednesday afternoon at the Lancer Aquatic Center.
The win is the Lancers' second straight and sixth in the past eight as they improve to 14-9 overall. It is the fourth time in the past five game the Lancers have scored 12 or more goals.
The Scots fall to 1-8.
Ten different Lancers scored. Jennifer Grutz, Kim Latschaw and Doris Tran all scored three goals apiece.
Latschaw and Petra Kovacs scored twice in the first quarter as the Lancers rolled out to a 9-0 lead. Camryn Rogers made three first-quarter saves and then was lifted in favor of Kristen Post, who made six saves in the final three quarters.
Alyssa Birch got the Lancers going with a 6-on-5 goal just 32 seconds into the game. The Lancers scored on their next three possessions to take control. Kovacs scored twice.
The Scots finally got on the board with 4:48 in the second quarter as Sarah Ellerton scored three unanswered goals in a 2:47 span. CBU led 13-3 at halftime.
CBU converted all three of their 6-of-5 opportunities. Brittany Bateman, Christina Webb and Kovacs all scored twice.
The Lancers host the Lancer Invitational Friday and Saturday, featuring Maryland, Long Beach State, George Washington, Concordia and Azusa Pacific among others. The Lancers play Maryland (2 p.m.) and George Washington (5 p.m.) on Friday and Long Beach State Saturday (12 p.m.).
