California Baptist's first game Saturday against Santa Clara proved to be quite a battle, just as the Lancers' bout with the Sun Devils had been less than 24 hours earlier. The Broncos jumped out to an early 1-0 lead, but after swapping baskets across the first eight minutes of the contest, the Lancers battled the game to a 2-2 tie, to close the first quarter. CBU took its first lead in the game just over a minute into the second period, but SCU answered quickly to knot the score at 3-3. Each team scored once more, before the half.
The second half was just as close as the first, with neither team able to build a lead. In the end though, the Broncos edged out a one-point win over the Lancers.
In the contest, Kylie Chevalier and Jennifer Grutz each notched a hat trick for CBU.
Despite the trend of their first two games in Arizona, the Lancers jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead over the Warriors, but over the final three minutes of the opening quarter, Hawaii tied it up, and with one second remaining in the period, the Warriors netted a score to take a one goal lead, 3-2. Each team only managed one score in the second quarter, giving the Warriors a 4-3 halftime advantage.
CBU again knotted the score in the third quarter, 4-4, but Hawaii then pounded out four unanswered scores over the remaining half of the period, taking an 8-4 lead into the final quarter. Despite CBU's effort to pull back within three goals, 8-5, less than a minute into the period, Hawaii netted another four scores, to the Lancers' one to take a six-point win over CBU.
Collette Brown led CBU in scoring in game two with a pair of goals for the Lancers.
California Baptist will be back home Tuesday to face Chapman at 3 p.m., at the Lancer Aquatics Center.
