"We played a very tough two games today, versus highly ranked teams," said head coach Jacob Medina. "While our defense held strong, our offense struggled in both games to put the ball in the goal."
In the first game, CBU battled to a 1-1 tie at the conclusion of the first quarter, and allowed only one more Matador score in second. The Lancers entered halftime down only one goal, 2-1, but CSUN applied the pressure defense in the second half. CBU only managed one more goal over the final 16 minutes, while the Matadors claimed a four-goal victory over the Lancers.
Camryn Rogers tallied nine saves in the game.
Game two began in much better fashion for CBU as it owned a 2-1 advantage over UCSB after the first eight minutes of play, but the Gauchos answered with a four-score second quarter, taking a 5-2 lead into the break. CBU matched UCSB with one goal each in the third quarter, and then tallied three more scores in the fourth quarter. In the end, UCSB edged out a two-goal victory.
In the final game of the day, Chelsea Gentry posted a hat trick for the Lancers, while Collette Brown added a pair of scores to her total for the day.
"We had some great offensive opportunities in both games that were generated from excellent defensive and offensive execution, but we struggled to find the back of the net," said Medina. "Rogers and Alyssa Birch anchored our defense, which held both teams to single digits."
The Lancers will be back home for the final contest of the season at the Lancer Aquatics Center on Wednesday. CBU will square-off against Pomona-Pitzer at 3 p.m.
