SATURDAY SPLIT
1/23/2011 4:39:00 AM | Women's Water Polo
BERKELEY, Calif. --- Christina Webb had two hat tricks on the day, but the second wasn't enough for the California Baptist women's water polo team as they went 1-1 at the Berkeley Invitational.
The Lancers grabbed their first win of the young season in an 11-5 win over Sonoma State. CBU jumped out to an early 5-1 first quarter lead before ending the half with a 7-1 advantage.
The Lancers exploded for another four goals in the third to seal their win.
In the match Webb scored three of her six goals on the day, while Kylie Chevalier and Mallory Montano each added two. CBU had goals from seven different players and Camryn Rogers tallied five saves.
The second game of the day saw CBU dig an early hole that would be too large to overcome. The Lancers didn't score until the second, and trailed 4-1 at the break. East Bay's four third quarter goals proved to be too much for CBU as the Lancers record dropped to 1-2.
Just three CBU players scored in the match. Webb notched her second three-goal game of the day, while Tania Acavedo and Nicole Berry both scored once.
The day's matchups were both glimpses towards the future for CBU as both Sonoma State and Cal State East Bay are NCAA Div. II schools. CBU will join the NCAA Div. II ranks beginning in the 2011-2012 season.
Feb. 4 will be the Lancer's first Invitational of the season. CBU will welcome Vanguard, Cal State San Bernardino, Redlands, Azusa Pacific, and others to the Lancer Aquatics Center.
