TROJAN TROUNCED
2/13/2011 5:05:00 AM | Women's Water Polo
LOS ANGELES, Calif. --- The California Baptist women's water polo team had its hands full against the second ranked Trojans of USC as they lost 19-4 at McDonald's Swim Stadium. The Lancers (4-4) had just three goal scorers in the match and never threatened the reigning NCAA Div. I National Champions.
USC (4-1) jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first, thanks in part to two goals by Joelle Bekhazi. The women of Troy then outscored CBU 3-2 in the second to take a 6-2 advantage at the half. The Trojans blanked the Lancers in the third quarter while adding another five to the scoreboard. With the game out of reach CBU notched two goals in the final period, but gave up another eight to the home team.
Petra Kovacs led the Lancers with two goals. Christina Webb and Kylie Chevalier were the only other two CBU players to find the back of the net. CBU's Camryn Rogers, who sits at No. 2 on the school's career saves list, had five blocks in the match.
Three Trojans finished with hat tricks as 10 USC players scored.
With losses to No. 1 California, No. 14 Hartwick, and No. 2 USC the Lancers are 0-3 against CWPA Top-20 opponents. CBU will spend next week up north with games against Santa Clara and No. 19 Pacific.
