LA MIRADA, Calif. --- No. 1 California Baptist University powered past No. 21 Biola Friday afternoon, to keep a 26-game win streak and perfect conference record alive.
CBU swept the Eagles 8-0 (six innings) and 13-2 (five innings) to move to 43-1 overall, 6-0 GSAC. Biola falls to 21-15, 2-4.
Emma Holden dominated the Eagle batters in the opener, holding the home team to just two hits and no runs in her five innings of work. Holden struck out seven and walked just one batter, to improve her record to 21-1 on the season.
After the Lancer offense spotted her an 8-0 lead, Holden was replaced by Courtney McGee, who pitched a perfect sixth inning, striking out two.
Mara Rodriguez and Nicole Shoemaker got the Lancers on the board in the second inning, each hitting two-out RBI doubles, to give CBU an early 2-0 lead.
After Rodriguez drove in another run in the fourth inning, the Lancers broke the game open with three runs in the fifth and then two more in the sixth.
Sloan McHann hit a two-run homer in the fifth and Shoemaker hit a two-run double in the sixth.
Shoemaker was 2-for-3 in the opener, leading the team with three RBI and Rodriguez went 3-for-3, with two RBI and two runs scored.
In the second game of the doubleheader, the Lancers looked to be headed for a tight one after Biola took a 2-1 lead in the first inning. CBU posted three runs in the third, however, and then poured on nine more in the fourth, to seal an easy second win of the day.
Despite giving up the two runs, only one of which was earned, Tory Ferreira picked up the win to move to 13-0. Ferreira threw three innings of two-hit ball before McGee came in to finish off her second game of the day, throwing the final two innings.
The Lancers were helped by two Eagle errors early in the third inning and then Shoemaker stepped to the plate and knocked in her fourth and fifth RBI of the day with a single.
Biola would commit three more errors in the inning, as CBU got its nine runs in the inning on just four hits and five errors.
Tina Galinato led the Lancers in the late game, going 3-for-3 with three RBI and three runs scored.
On the afternoon Shoemaker was 4-for-5 with a team-high five RBI and two runs scored. McHann had four RBI in the doubleheader.
CBU is back in action tomorrow at 12 p.m., facing Vanguard at home in its annual cancer awareness game. It will be the Lancers' fourth doubleheader of the week.
