ORANGE, Calif.---The Lancers (23-11) defeated No. 7 (NCAA Div. III) Chapman 17-11 thanks to five goals and three assists from Petra Kovacs.
CBU jumped out to an early 3-0 lead as Kovacs scored two of the first three of the match, while Mallory Montano notched the other. Chapman responded with a 3-1 run to end the first quarter trailing 3-4.
Kovacs registered her third goal of the game to give CBU a 5-3 lead but Chapman's Samantha Martin found the back of the net for the second of her four goals to keep the Panthers within one.
Tania Acavedo, Rachel Esau, and Kim Latschaw each scored in the second quarter to put the Lancers ahead 8-5 at the half.
The Panthers kept it interesting with two straight goals to make it 7-8, but the Lancers rattled off four consecutive scores to grab the biggest lead up to that point. The teams traded goals the rest of the way as Chapman failed to get back in the match.
Five CBU players scored multiple goals, while Latschaw and Kovacs notched hat tricks.
Kovacs moved into the top five on CBU's single season scoring list with her 93rd goal.
Kylie Chavlier scored twice and added two assists as Montano drew four ejections.
Camryn Rogers added six saves to her CBU record total.
CBU won its third straight and improved to 9-0 all-time against the Panthers (10-14).
The Lancers will face No. 16 Cal State Northridge and No. 15 UCSB in Northridge tomorrow afternoon.
