SANTA CLARA, Calif. --- On the road for the second straight day, California Baptist University picked up a pair of wins Saturday, beating Cal State Monterey Bay 13-6 and host Santa Clara 9-8.
In the nightcap, CBU used a pair of hat-tricks from Alyssa Birch and Petra Kovacs to narrowly outscore the Broncos.
With a one goal lead at the end of the first, CBU outscored SCU 2-1 in the second quarter for a two goal lead at halftime. After an even third quarter, the Broncos pushed for a late tie, but came up one goal short despite outscoring the Lancers 2-1 in the fourth quarter.
Nine saves from goalkeeper Camryn Rogers also assisted in CBU holding-off any type of Bronco comeback.
Kim Latschaw, Molly Gritchen and Mallory Montano also contributed a goal each in CBU's win.
Earlier in the day, CBU used four consistent quarters of scoring to beat Monterey Bay 13-6.
Kovacs tallied another three-goal performance, along with a hat-trick from Gritchen. Nicole Berry and Montano each found the back of the net twice.
Seven separate Lancers scored, compared to only three from CSUMB.
Tania Acavedo, Laura Kocsis and Latschaw also each recorded a goal.
Rogers added another eight saves to her season total, and freshman Leticia Perez stepped in between the posts to notch six saves of her own.
Now at 6-7, the Lancers will hit the road again next weekend, facing CSU Bakersfield and La Verne at Cal Lutheran in Thousand Oaks.
